Summary[edit]

Description
English: Soldiers at Christmas. The men are raising their glasses.

The caption on the previous photograph in the sequence reveals that the glasses were filled with beer, not wine. There was not much cheer for the soldiers on the front line. It is difficult not to wonder whether this picture was not set up by the photographer as a piece of reassuring propaganda for publication in the newspapers back home.
